Programs & Services
CII's prevention services include parenting education.
For nearly a century, Children's Institute, Inc. has evolved to meet the changing needs of at-risk children and their families in Los Angeles County. At CII, we believe that the lives of traumatized children can be turned around through positive, effective intervention--and that we can prevent children from harm by providing families with the support they need to nurture and protect their children.
CII's work is carried out through seven service sites, 25 direct service programs, 300 employees and hundreds of volunteers and supporters.
Our comprehensive approach focuses on the following areas:
Treatment
Children who have been traumatized by abuse, neglect, or community violence require special care. CII has created one of the nation's strongest models for working with children who have been affected by violence. The agency provides a wealth of therapeutic services that include child and family mental-health assessment and treatment services, in-home counseling, specialized sexual abuse treatment, emergency response and follow-up services for victims of domestic violence and their children, and comprehensive foster care services.
Prevention
CII's prevention services help to ensure that children grow up in a safe, stable environment. They include parenting education, counseling and support groups for fathers, and intervention in schools to prevent bullying and provide youth with an alternative to gangs.
Early Childhood
Designed to positively impact at-risk children in their earliest years, CII's services include Early Head Start and preschool for infants through age five, a comprehensive school-readiness program, a day treatment program for preschoolers with severe emotional and behavioral problems, and an in-home intervention program for children prenatally exposed to drugs or HIV.
Community Services
Beyond counseling and support, CII works to strengthen resources in the community for children and families through a variety of enrichment, after-school, and job assistance programs.
