Peter S Loft, Jr., MSW comes to us from the Incredible Years Programs in Seattle, Washington, an internationally known evidenced-based programs for parents, teachers, and young children, proven to reduce long-term risk factors for families and children. He is a certified trainer in the Classroom Dinosaur School Social Skills Program, small group treatment model of Dinosaur School Social Skills intervention for children with at-risk behaviors, Basic and Advanced Parenting Programs, and in Teacher Classroom Management Strategies.

About the Training
Parent and Child “Dina” Consultation Training
Group leaders will work with Peter Loft to receive consultation on their parent or child groups (half of the day will be devoted to each program). Group leaders will bring short video clips of their groups with a goal or question for consultation. Group leaders will show their videos, and then will work collaboratively with the group to address questions and to brainstorm solutions to issues that have come up in groups. Through role play and practice, group leaders will try out alternative ways of responding or dealing with parent and child issues from their groups. Common issues that are discussed in parent group consultation are: how to set up and support role plays, how to mediate effective vignette discussions, how to pull out key principles, how to manage resistance, and how to tailor the intervention to parents’ needs. Common issues that are discussed in child group consultation are: how to use the puppets in an effective way, how to incorporate behavioral practices into circle time, how to manage challenging child behavior, how to individualize treatment to each child’s goals.

At the end of the Parent Consultation participants will be able to…

• To understand how to tailor the group to meet the needs of different parent populations.
• To understand how to scaffold role plays and behavioral practices so that parents are successful in practicing new parenting skills.
• To use the consultation group to brainstorm and then practice new group leader skills to enhance the effectiveness of the IY parent groups.
• To use the video review process to watch segments of the parent groups and then engage self-reflection and peer discussion to generate ideas for more effective responses.

At the end of the Child “Dina” Consultation participants will be able to…

• To understand how to tailor the child groups to meet the differing needs of the individual children in the group.
• To understand how to set up role plays so that children can practice new skills in the groups.
• To use the consultation group to brainstorm and then practice new group leader skills to enhance the effectiveness of the IY child groups.
• To use the video review process to watch segments of the child groups and then engage self-reflection and peer discussion to generate ideas for more effective responses.

The California Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) now recognizes APA continuing education credit for license renewal for LCSWs and MFTs.

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY:
By registering for this training the attendee is liable for the registration fee, which is fully refundable up to January 17, 2020. Registration is transferrable prior to the start of the training. Once the training begins, fees are non-refundable/transferrable and no partial refunds will be given.
